Barnacle Foods: Bullwhip Hot Sauce and Octopus

Barnacle Foods just dropped a canned combo of bullwhip kelp and octopus with a healthy dose of spicy in it. It’s the end result of what happens when they team up with their friends Wildfish Cannery to make new seafood products happen.

Not only does canning preserve the octopus and kelp, it gives them time to really marinate with the Piri Piri peppers and garlic. Barnacle Foods claims that each bite hits you with flavor first, then a medium heat, and finally the tender texture of the octopus. They liken the flavor more to pork than seafood.

Moreover, the octopus is locally harvested in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, by Dustan and Evie of Raven Bay Seafoods. These animals are caught as bycatch and are normally turned into bait. Barnacle Foods also says that all of the animal is used in its entirety and handled with the utmost respect. However, if you just watched My Octopus Teacher and aren’t feeling it, Barnacle Foods also has lots of vegetarian options too. See them all on the seafood company’s website.
